One of our biggest questions from new members is that our portions are larger than they would expect. It seems strange doesn’t it? Eating more to lose weight and how is this even possible?
With bistroMD you do not have to starve to lose weight. When you give your body the macronutrients it needs, it functions a lot better.
When people starve themselves, they are depriving their bodies of essential nutrients they the body needs to lose weight, these include: lean protein, healthy vegetables, vitamins, minerals, fiber, healthy fats and some complex carbs and limiting unnecessary foods like harmful fats and sugars. Not eating at all or not eating the right foods can cause the body to go into starvation mode. Our bodies need protein to survive, and without any protein intake, our body breaks down muscle for protein.
Muscle helps the body burn fat, but when muscle gets broken down, it slows down the fat-burning process and can cause weight gain as opposed to weight loss. This is why protein intake is so crucial to help preserve our muscle tissue and metabolism.
Many of Dr. Cederquist’s new patients have struggled to lose weight although they are on restrictive diets. A large majority of them are suffering from metabolism dysfunction, which means that their cells are starving. This happens because energy cannot properly enter the cell and instead this energy is stored as fat. A starving organism will just further slow itself down and store more fat.
Not to fret though, there is a way to correct metabolism dysfunction with a proper action plan that includes a meal plan with a regular intake of lean protein and a controlled amount of healthy carbohydrates and fats.
The key is not to eat less, but rather eat the right types of food in the correct amounts in order to fix metabolism dysfunction.
