  • When can I expect my entrees to arrive?

Depending on where you live in the U.S., your entrees will be scheduled for delivery between Wednesday and Saturday. Once your entrees are on their way to you, you will receive a tracking email that will allow you to track your order. If you do not receive your tracking number, check your spam folder or contact us. You may also access your tracking number in our member's portal by visiting www.mybistromd.com, and clicking on My Program and then My Delivery.

  • When do I customize my first week in my bistroMD?

Upon completion of your order you are directed to immediately customize your program on the order confirmation page.  If you have not yet customized your order, log on to www.mybistromd.com now to review your first week’s menu. If you do not customize, we will send you our dietitian’s recommended menu for your first week.

  • When do I customize my second week in my bistroMD?

From Tuesday at 5 p.m., ET. until Wednesday at 5 p.m., ET, you will have one day to review, customize and approve your second week’s menu. Just log back into www.mybistroMD.com. In order to allow time to create your program we must work a week in advance.

We recognize that you will be sharing your preferences for a second week before you receive your first week of the bistroMD program. This is why you have until Sunday at midnight, ET, after you receive your first week of the program and try the entrees. If for any reason you choose not to remain on the program, you can to let us know by this deadline and we will be happy to cancel and refund your second week.

  • Why do new orders have a Tuesday at noon, EST, cutoff?

It is our utmost priority to ensure that your entrees arrive in the intended condition, and without delay. FedEx does not deliver on Sunday, so we must ensure that your meals arrive by Saturday.

To allow time to prepare your menu, we uphold a Tuesday at noon, EST, cutoff deadline. If you place your order after Tuesday at noon, EST, your entrees will arrive the following week.

Additionally, the FAA regulates the amount of dry ice that can be included in your order, and this restricts us from bulking up the dry ice or shipping via airplane. We are unable to ship your entrees later in the week, because of federal regulations on dry ice, and the amount of dry ice necessary to ensure that your entrees arrive in the best possible condition.

We don’t change our recipes. Our chefs work diligently to make them taste delicious and every recipe is reviewed by our Registered Dietitians for its nutritional benefits. We leave it up to our team of medical experts because of their knowledge and understanding of Dr. Cederquist’s unique nutritional foundation for weight loss, as well as the proper way to combine each ingredient for your individual weight loss needs.

If we modify recipes by adding or excluding ingredients, this will change the nutritional benefit of the entire entree. Each ingredient in every entree that we serve is chosen to supply your body with the right amount of protein, healthy carbohydrates and healthy fats to feed your body’s essential needs. This means that our entrees contain complex carbohydrates like vegetables, whole grains and fiber along with lean protein and healthy fat ratios.

Please keep in mind that as you exclude items from your menu, this may limit the variety of your weekly program.

You can also place your order over the phone and notify us that you would only like to receive one week of entrees at that time.

Shipping Information

  • Where do you deliver the program?

BistroMD delivers to the Continental U.S. and Alaska and Hawaii. If you live in Alaska, delivery is only available to Anchorage, Fairbanks and Eagle River.

  • When can I expect my entrees to arrive?

If you place your order by Tuesday at noon, EST, we will send your entrees that week.

If you place your order after Tuesday at noon, EST, your entrees will arrive the following week.

Depending on where you live in the U.S., your entrees will be scheduled for delivery between Wednesday and Saturday. Once your entrees are on their way to you, you will receive a tracking email that will allow you to track your order.

  • Why did I still receive an order if I have until Wednesday to cancel my program?

Our team of expert chefs and Registered Dietitians work in advance to prepare your program. This is why we require that all holds, changes or cancellations for program members in their second week or beyond notify us of all holds or cancellations by Wednesday at 5 p.m., EST, the week before the next week’s order arrives.

If you notify us after this deadline, we have already prepared your entrees and your order will be on its way to you.

Please know that you are always able to cancel future orders by our deadlines.

  • Why does my order not arrive the same day each week?

FedEx is unable to guarantee that you will always receive your entrees on the exact same day. Please refer to your tracking number to see the real time status of your order. The FedEx website is also frequently updated for weather delays. If there are any concerns with your delivery schedule, please let us know.

  • How are my meals shipped each week?

We use FedEx to ship all of our entrees. You will receive a tracking number from FedEx via email that will allow you to track your order. If you do not receive your tracking number, check your spam folder or contact us. You may also access your tracking number in our member's portal by visiting www.mybistromd.com, and clicking on My Program and then My Delivery.

  • Do you offer expedited shipping?

Unfortunately, expedited shipping options are not available.

The FAA regulates the amount of dry ice that can be shipped via airplane, the standard method for expedited shipping. Each week of entrees arrives to you on dry ice in a specially designed cooler to ensure freshness upon arrival at your home or office. Our meals are sent via FedEx Ground delivery to abide by FAA standards.

  • When can I expect my order to arrive?

New orders are accepted through our website and by calling. If you place your order by Tuesday at noon, EST, we will send your entrees that week.

If you place your order after Tuesday at noon, EST, your entrees will arrive the following week.

We ship at the beginning of every week. Depending on where you live in the U.S., your entrees will be scheduled for delivery between Wednesday and Saturday. Once your entrees are on their way to you, you will receive a tracking email that will allow you to track your order.

  • How are shipping costs calculated?

Each week of entrees is packed with dry ice and shipped in a specially designed cooler to ensure freshness upon arrival at your home or office.

For convenience, all orders within the Continental U.S. will ship via FedEx Ground for $24.95. For members who reside in Alaska and Hawaii, our shipping costs are $69.95.

We observe a Tuesday at noon, EST, cutoff for all new orders. Any orders placed after this time will be shipped the following week. This deadline ensures that all orders arrive in the intended, cold condition to ensure the freshness and the quality of your entrees.

  • Signature Requirements for Delivery

As long as FedEx feels it is safe to leave your package upon delivery, they will not require a signature. If your order is shipping to an apartment building, condo, or other form of residence with shared walkways or hallways and the FedEx driver feels your package may be unsafe to leave, FedEx may require a signature and the package may be left at a manager's office. Since FedEx takes the responsibility to ensure your package is delivered safely, the decision to require a signature and/or leave your package at your building’s management office, or at a main entrance to your building is at your FedEx driver’s sole discretion.

Entree Information

  • What type of variety will I receive?

At any given time we have over 200 recipes that our chefs prepare. Some of these dishes are seasonal and are made when the ingredients are at the peak of the growing season. With this variety we are able to limit the amount of entree duplications within our 6 week program.

Once you complete your order, our dietitians create your program. Log in to my bistroMD to see your menu in advance, then select your entrees for each day and review your program. You can choose your entrees to fit your unique preferences. This gives you control over your variety. If you have allergies, religious preferences, or choose to remove many entrees from your program, this will reduce your variety.

If you would like more or less of a specific menu item, just log on and change your preference.

Also if you have very specific menu customization requests, or certain food allergies, this will limit the variety of your program.

  • Do you have a dairy free or lactose intolerant meal program?

At this time we are unable to offer a dairy free program. Milk is often used as a cooking ingredient in our entrees and sauces, and most people with known lactose intolerance are able to handle the small amount that may be present. In these cases, we simply remove the entrees with cheese from their program. Additionally, bistroMD will never send you milk to drink or yogurt on the side.

  • How much sodium is in bistroMD meals?

Each of our programs meets or falls below the US Dietary Guidelines for sodium, averaging 2000-2300mg per day. This is what is recommended for the average US adult. If your doctor has recommended that you follow a lower sodium diet, we are happy to accommodate this need with a low sodium program that averages about 1500mg per day. To accomplish this, we have to eliminate certain entrees, especially of the ethnic flavors, and those that utilize soy sauce, from your program. While the variety of our low sodium program is still diverse, please know that it will not include the full range on entrees offered by bistroMD.

  • Does bistroMD accommodate certain allergies?

If you have been diagnosed with a food allergy, or believe yourself to be allergic to a certain ingredient found in our entrees, please notify our customer service team at the time of your order.

You are also able to contact customer service at any time to make adjustments to your allergy restrictions. BistroMD is able to accommodate many food allergies by removing certain entrees from your program. Please be advised that all of our entrees are prepared in kitchens that handle all of our ingredients, so there is always a possibility that some cross contamination may occur.

  • Do you offer vegetarian entrees?

Due to the specific nutritional foundation set by our founding physician, Caroline J. Cederquist, M.D., we do not have the ability to offer a completely vegetarian program at this time.

We are able to offer a program consisting of entrees that include chicken as the main source of protein, and that substitute in any vegetarian entrees, upon availability.

  • Do you offer vegan entrees?

At this time, we don’t offer a menu that is strictly vegan, but our chefs are working on new entrees to add additional variety to our program.

  • Do you offer soy-free entrees?

Some of our entrees do contain soy ingredients, and many of our snacks are also soy based.

If you have a food allergy to soy, please let us know so we can customize a menu for you. Currently, we don’t offer a menu that is strictly soy-free, but our chefs are working on new entrees to add additional variety to our program.

  • Do you offer gluten-free entrees?

Yes! We are pleased to announce our new gluten free program. You can order a 5 or a 7 day program and once you complete your order and are directed to my bistroMD to customize, you will be able to select a gluten free program within the ingredients area. You may also order over the phone by calling (866) 401-3438.

  • Do you offer Kosher Certified entrees?

We do not have a Kosher menu.

  • There seems to be a lot of food. Can I order a program with less food?

Believe it or not, this is something we often hear from many of our members. Why is there so much food? Can you believe it—a weight loss program that serves hearty portions?

With bistroMD, we want you to enjoy food, eat better and see results that bring you closer to your weight loss goals.

We have larger portions because we understand that when most people want to lose weight they will stop eating. Far too often people will drastically cut calories and think that this is a healthy solution. Our unique understanding of weight loss shows that when you starve your body of nutrients this actually impacts your body chemistry and prevents your metabolism from burning fat effectively.

BistroMD was created to provide you with the right amount of nutrients during the day. Our entrees allow your body to lose weight and properly equip you to fight off those food cravings that can prevent you from achieving results.

If you still feel overwhelmed by the portions, we recommend that you still try to eat the entrees each day. Rather than avoiding an entree or a snack completely, just eat a portion until you feel satisfied. When it comes to healthy, sustainable weight loss, it is never a good idea to go without eating.

  • What happens if I defrost an entree, but don’t cook it right away?

Our trays are designed to retain the natural flavor, texture and nutrients of our entrees while also sealing in freshness.

You can choose to thaw your entrees in the refrigerator before you eat them, or keep them frozen. We recommend thawing your entrees the day before you eat them.

Our entrees do contain fresh ingredients, and are not shelf stable. If you choose to thaw your entrees, the maximum time you should defrost them in the refrigerator before you heat them is 48 hours.

When you are ready to eat, just follow the appropriate cooking directions specified on your tray for frozen or thawed entrees.

  • How do I cook my BistroMD entrees?

One of the best things about bistroMD is that you get to eat real entrees that are already prepared for you. All you have to do is pop your entree into the microwave and heat, eat and enjoy! It's that easy!

Each week you will receive a delivery consisting of one week of entrees. Our entrees are in BPA free microwavable trays that are vacuum sealed to maintain freshness and cook in their own natural juices when heated.

Each tray has specific cooking directions on the label as well as the list of included ingredients. Just follow the cooking times listed on the label, and you will be just minutes away from a healthy, delectable, top-quality entree without all of the stressful preparation and cleanup afterward.

My Night

  • What is "My Night"?

On our 7 day programs, “My Night” is your one free night each week to enjoy a structured break from the program. Our research shows that allowing a “My Night” reward, one where you are able to choose your own dinner outside of the program, enables you to make healthy choices and also remain dedicated to the program longer.

Please know that you are not charged for this planned meal, as the price of our 7 day plans which include the “My Night” are adjusted to account for the “missing” entree.

We encourage you to develop healthy eating habits, and this includes learning to enjoy food normally when you are not trying to lose weight. We hope that you will enjoy your “My Night” and jump right back into your customized program the next day.

We want you to succeed on our program and achieve the life-transforming wellness that you desire. As you move forward, please do not hesitate to ask us questions. Also if you have a question for our Registered Dietitians, please let us know as our experts are more than happy to assist you. The best part is that this service is included with your program, free of charge.

If “My Night” does not work for your lifestyle, please know that we are happy to provide you with a dinner to replace “My Night” for future shipments. Please let us know and we can provide you with the cost for this meal.

EATS

  • What are EATS?

Essential and Tasty Snacks: EATS is an essential part of your bistroMD program and is a different approach to snacking. EATS does more than satisfy your sweet tooth and nibble urges, it also boosts your metabolic burn to keep the pounds coming off. With EATS you can snack and still lose weight!

We encourage snacking. Why? Well, not all snacks are created equal. Our recommended snack program, packs a whole lot of craving-satisfying power into every bite, but that’s not all. Our snacks provide a powerful tool to help you lose weight.

  • How do EATS help with my weight loss?

Each snack from bistroMD is protein-based and contains on average between 8-15 grams of protein. Our program supplies protein roughly every 3-4 hours. This lean, adequate protein will boost your metabolism and curb your food cravings to help you stay healthy and lose weight.

  • How much are EATS?

Our EATS program for women consists of two snacks a day and corresponds with the program that you are on; either 5 days a week or 7 days a week. The cost is $3.00 a day or, $15 or $21 a week.

Our EATS program for men consists of three snacks a day and corresponds with the program that you are on; either 5 days a week or 7 days a week. The cost is $4.50 a day or, $22.50 or $31.50 a week.

  • Where are the double fudge cookies and chocolate bars for snacks?

Don’t worry; our Registered Dietitians have heard it before. The concept of snacking has been so misconstrued by our society that some people expect to get unhealthy snacks even when they are trying to lose weight. There is really no such thing as a healthy double fudge cookie. Other weight loss programs would like you to believe that there is so they can attract your business. The honest truth is that they’re deliberately not being honest with you.

BistroMD exists to combat these dietary deceptions and will help you to develop healthier snacking habits.

  • Will I lose more weight by not eating snacks?

No. In between meals your blood sugar can get low and your body will gravitate towards eating something high in carbohydrates in order to raise your blood sugar quickly. Sugar laden snacks will cause your blood sugar to spike and then drop, causing cravings. Your body will still want the sugar or the carbohydrates and the cycle will begin again. The protein-based snacks from bistroMD are designed to keep your blood sugar stable and curb your food cravings.

  • Why do you include snacks on your program? Is it more beneficial to order a program with snacks?

Each snack from bistroMD is protein-based and contains on average between 8-15 grams of protein. Our program supplies protein roughly every 3-4 hours. This lean, adequate protein will boost your metabolism and curb your food cravings to help you stay healthy and lose weight.

Nutritional and Health Questions

  • Is bistroMD appropriate for diabetics?

BistroMD is appropriate for people with Type II Diabetes.

Many people who need to lose weight are diagnosed as diabetic or pre-diabetic, which is why Dr. Cederquist has directed that our entrees are also suitable for people living with this condition.

The entrees in our program focus on the proper balance of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, and low fat. Lean protein is what is keeps you feeling full, and what helps keep your blood sugars stabilized.

To accommodate your dietary needs as a diabetic, we avoid all simple sugars in our entrees such as white bread, potatoes, and pasta. These foods can cause your blood sugar to spike and then drop rapidly, causing you to feel hungry again shortly after you eat.

All of the entrees in our program are properly portioned to give you the right combination of these essential nutrients. As a diabetic on our program, you won't have to worry about preparing your entrees to suit your dietary requirements, or worry about over-eating. We do all of the preparation and cooking for you!

If you do have an existing medical condition, please consult with your doctor before starting a weight loss program.

  • What type of container is used for your entrees?

We use a recyclable tray and it has always been and will continue to be completely BPA free.

  • Is bistroMD a low glycemic plan?

At bistroMD, our program was created using the concept of the glycemic load, rather than the glycemic index.

The importance of the glycemic load has to do with the way your metabolism effectively burns fat from the foods it digests. Where the glycemic index is your body's response to only certain foods, the glycemic load has to do with the way your body responds to combinations of different foods. This is why the balance of proper foods with the right nutrients is vitally important.

If you are only eating certain foods day after day, your metabolism will adjust to this eating pattern and won't know how to respond when you take in different foods. By focusing on the concept of the glycemic load, your metabolism can effectively cope with your the changes in your diet, and retrain itself to burn fat more effectively.

  • What if I eat out or eat something not on the program?

We encourage you to develop healthy eating habits and that includes learning to enjoy food normally. Because bistroMD is so simple and convenient, enjoy your “My Night” and jump right back into your nutritional program the next day. Our 7 day programs include a structured break from the program called "My Night".

  • What is “My Night”?

  • What should I drink, and how much? Can I drink coffee, tea or milk?

We recommend drinking a minimum of eight glasses of water each day. This can be in the form of regular water, flavored water (like Propel, Fruit 2.O), decaffeinated diet soda, any diet fruit juices (like Diet V8 Splash) and Crystal Light. These drinks help keep you hydrated and help "flush" everything out of your system.

You are allowed to drink caffeinated drinks like diet soda, coffee, or tea but it is recommended that you limit them to two per day. Caffeine can act as a diuretic so when you drink caffeinated beverages you lose water. If your body loses too much water because you drink too much caffeine you can become dehydrated.

When you become dehydrated your body will retain any fluids and you will retain more water. While you want to lose some water weight, you do not want to lose too much water weight. Drinking two caffeinated beverages per day is fine and won't necessarily cause your body to retain water, but it is important not to drink more than is recommended.

If you use creamer in your coffee make sure it is low-fat. If you use sugar, use a sugar substitute like Splenda.

It is important to avoid most fruit juices because many are high in sugar.

Milk is okay to drink because it contains protein, however, limit the milk to one eight ounce glass per day because of the lactose and fat content. If you are going to drink milk it is recommended that you drink the low-fat or skim variety. Don't fall for flavored milks with added sugars and fat.

  • Can I drink alcohol and still lose weight?

Yes you can, however you must do so in moderation. The recommendation is for women to consume no more than 3 alcoholic drinks per week and men to consume no more than 4 alcoholic drinks per week.

Let us know if you have more specific questions about alcohol consumption.

  • Do I have to give up my fresh fruits and vegetables?

With bistroMD, we provide nutritionally complete entrees and sides. Each of our menu items contain vegetables that are cooked to perfection. If you have a craving for fresh fruit and vegetables you can still eat these if you are on our plan.

If you wish to have fruit, we recommend that you eat no more than one serving per day, and that the fruit is eaten with some type of protein (i.e. a protein snack). Fruit contains a natural sugar called fructose, which can cause your blood sugar to spike when eaten alone. If you eat your fruit with a protein snack, this will help stabilize your blood sugar, and prevent it from fluctuating.

You can also eat your favorite vegetables while on our program. In fact, only one cup of raw vegetables is only about 25 calories. This caloric count is small, but it is recommended that you limit your raw vegetables to no more than four cups per day, which is the equivalent of a large salad. If you choose the salad route, watch out for things like croutons, cheese, and dressing. If you want some dressing on your salad, use only two tablespoons or less of a low fat or light dressing.

  • Is BistroMD advisable for women who are breastfeeding?

Our dietitians usually recommend our 7 day programs and then the option to add in your own snacks that fit our recommendations or purchase our snack program, EATS. This will place you in a 1200 calories average per day which is not enough for a woman who is breastfeeding. If you would like to receive entrees from bistroMD while you are breastfeeding, our dietitians can work with you to create a program that will suit your individual needs. Please give us a call and we would be more than happy to have one of our expert dietitians follow up with you directly.

  • How long would you suggest I stay on the program?

With bistroMD you have the option of staying on the program for as long as you like. Even for life!

Our program was created to promote life-transforming wellness. Our goal is to help you lose weight and provide you with the tools to help you maintain your weight loss once you have achieved your initial goals.

Environmental and Sustainability Policies

  • Environmental and Sustainability Policies

Did you know that bistroMD ships your weekly customized program in boxes that are constructed from 100% post-consumer recycled paper, and are printed using vegetable-based ink? Our commitment to operating our company on a sustainable basis, however, does not end there. Each of the coolers that we use are formed from no less than 60% post-consumer recycled foam products.

All of our shipping materials are fully recyclable, and bistroMD encourages our program members to make every effort to divert these materials from the landfill by recycling them again, themselves.

  • Can I recycle any of the packaging that my meals are shipped in?

BistroMD is committed not only to your health but also the health of your environment. That’s why we take extra steps to ensure that we’re doing our part to protect it. Each week, your meals arrive in reusable polystyrene packaging. This cooler is at least 60% post-consumer recycled foam. We encourage you to visit Earth911.com and identify recycling locations near your home. You can also share these coolers with a friend. Contact your local American Red Cross or relief organization to identify how these can be used locally.
