You probably wouldn't be shocked to find that your metabolism changes during and after menopause. What you might find surprising is that the one size fits all diets that you've tried in the past may have actually increased your chances of gaining weight. Learn how to readjust your body's metabolism to accommodate the changes that menopause brings.

Hormone Therapy for Menopause


Women going through menopause experience a lot of changes in their body. One of the most uncomfortable changes, both physically and emotionally, is the experience of gaining weight. There is absolutely no shame though, because medical science has conclusively linked menopausal changes to weight gain.

For years, doctors recommended that their patients undergo hormone replacement therapy in order to prevent risk factors such as heart disease, osteoporosis, and stroke. It was also said that hormone replacement would help ward off the weight gain that is common during menopause.

However, in a 2002 study by the Women's Health Initiative, it was found that women who undergo hormone replacement therapy are more likely to suffer heart attack and strokes than those who did not. Additionally, it was found that women who used hormone replacement showed the same levels of weight gain as those who opted not to take the treatment.
