Losing weight too quickly is not healthy because losing weight takes time. When you decide you want to lose weight, you are making a commitment to change your diet and exercise habits.

Exercise is required for any weight loss program. When you’re active, your body uses more energy, or calories. Typically, you lose weight when you burn more calories than you consume.

However, there are some easy ways to lose weight quickly: every day we burn calories by doing nothing. Believe it or not, it takes calories to breathe, blink, smile and talk.

While it would be nice to sit back and relax and watch the pounds magically fall off, that’s not very realistic. Exercise will definitely help you lose weight quickly, but the key is to eat smart AND exercise. The combination will have a stronger effect in preventing weight gain and maintaining weight loss.

Burning calories helps you lose weight more quickly

      - Active men naturally burn an average of 2,800 calories a day

      - Active women naturally burn an average of 2,200 calories a day

      - Generally, inactive men naturally burn an average of 2,200 calories a day

      - Generally, inactive women naturally burn an average of 1,600 calories a day

You don't have to exercise like a maniac to lose weight quickly

You can burn calories by hitting the gym 3-5 times a week. However, you cannot eat whatever you want and still lose weight quickly by just increasing the intensity of your workout. Most people think this is the case, but it’s just plain false.

As a general goal, aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day whether it’s taking a few walks throughout the day or hitting the gym for some intense cardio. And do strength training exercises at least twice a week, with at least one day in between.

500: We recommend that you burn an extra 500 calories a day

Since one pound of fat is made up of roughly 3,500 extra calories, if you burn an extra 500 calories a day you will lose a pound of fat in one week (500 x 7 = 3,500). Remember, food is meant to be fuel for our bodies so don’t consume more food than you have to. In other words, don’t eat because you’re emotional or because you’re bored. You are only hurting yourself.
