Low carb is everywhere now days and some people think it’s a magical solution to weight-loss. If you buy low carb products, you’ll lose weight. Unfortunately, that’s not entirely true. While yes, it will help—it’s not the only component of a successful weight-loss strategy.

Why low carb?

A low-carb diet will limit carbohydrates like grains, starchy vegetables and fruit. It emphasizes dietary protein and fat.

A low carb diet is normally used to lose weight; however, some low carb diets have additional health benefits such as reducing risk factors associated with heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

What’s in a name?

Low carb diets do exactly what they sound like they do. They restrict the amount of carbohydrates you can eat. Most carbohydrates occur in plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, milk, nuts, grains, seeds and legumes.

Manufacturers also add carbs to processed foods in the form of starch or added sugar.

You’ve heard about ‘em, but what exactly are carbohydrates?

In a way, carbohydrates are your body’s main source of fuel. During digestion, sugars and starches are broken down into simple sugars. Then they’re absorbed into your bloodstream, where they're known as blood sugar (glucose). From there, the glucose enters your body's cells with the help of its buddy, insulin. Some of this glucose is used by your body for energy, fueling all of your activities. Extra glucose is stored in your liver, muscles and other cells for later use or is converted to fat.

A low carb diet will help you lose weight and help your body regulate its blood glucose levels.

Our program provides 1,100-1,400 calories daily with 40-50% total caloric intake from lean, adequate protein, 20-25% of calories from healthy fats, and 30-35% from complex carbohydrates.

BistroMd is super convenient too. We go to the grocery store and shop for ingredients, select healthy recipes and do the cooking for you. All you have to do is zap your delicious entrée in the microwave for a few minutes and enjoy.

We offer two programs: a men and a women’s program. You have the option to receive five-or-seven-days’ worth of delicious and healthy entrees delivered right to your door.
