Gluten Free Diet Weight Loss Plans
BistroMD Unviels the first Physician-Designed Gluten Free Weight Loss Program in the Country
It's official! We have a Gluten Free Program. But why should you consider going gluten free, and what are the benefits?
At bistroMD we understand the benefits of living a gluten-free lifestyle firsthand. It has been a personal journey for the company - here's why. Our very own CEO and Foodie of bistroMD, Ed Cederquist, has been gluten-free for over a decade. Ever since he discovered that his body was sensitive to the effects of gluten, it has been his dream to expand bistroMD's menu offerings to provide a gluten free program for our members.
Taking gluten out of your diet can reduce inflammation in your body. It can also help improve your cholesterol levels, promote digestive health, and boost your energy levels, as well as return your body's chemistry back to normal if you have a gluten intolerance.
"A gluten-free diet provides a perfect balance between lean protein and complex carbohydrates, including brown rice, quinoa and vegetables, as well as healthy fats," said renowned bariatric physician and weight loss pioneer, Caroline J. Cederquist, M.D., founding physician of bistroMD.
Who Needs a Gluten Free Diet?
One in every 141 Americans has celiac disease, according to the National Institutes of Health. For those people, the villi that help absorb nutrients as their bodies digest food become inflamed by gluten in their GI tracts and, among other symptoms, victims may experience severe cramps and bloating. A large number of people outside of the diagnosed population go undiagnosed for years. This can lead to painful headaches, diarrhea and more, with little or no explanation as to why this may be occurring.
Health Benefits of Reducing Gluten
In addition to eliminating the symptoms brought on from gluten intolerance or sensitivity, there are other health benefits. By eliminating gluten, and eating a gluten-free diet, you can help reduce your risk of heart disease, certain cancers, and other health-related conditions, such as diabetes. What's more? Many unhealthy foods contain gluten, like fried foods with breading and certain desserts so you will be eating a healthier diet.
How to Start a Gluten Free Diet
When Ed started to eliminate gluten from his diet, he was surprised at the availability of gluten-free foods. However, he found that many of the foods out available contained hidden wheat or other grains.
"I learned to be a label reader," says Ed. "My advice is to make a plan and eliminate the items containing gluten from your home. Even beer contains gluten."
Be careful when eating out, or ask for gluten-free choices. Beware of hidden ingredients that can contain gluten. The list of items containing gluten is extensive but here are a few:
• Bulgar Wheat
• Brewer's Yeast
• Cookie dough
• Flour (enriched and most other types)
• Malt Syrup
• Malt Vinegar
• Malt Flavoring
• Wheat Germ

Best Gluten Free Foods to Eat
Just because a food is gluten-free, doesn't mean it is healthy.
"Many of the products available are snack foods. This is why I knew we had to create a nutritionally sound gluten free meal program for our members," says Ed.
With our new Gluten Free Program, bistroMD simplifies the process and takes the guesswork out of planning gluten-free meals.
"Switching dietary habits is a complicated process. I know because I've lived this," says Ed. "Now we have another option available. With an exclusive menu of more than 90 gluten-free meals, we are making dieting delicious for anyone who wants to cut gluten from their meals."
