Ensuring Safety

Especially if taking a medication to manage blood sugars diabetes, lowering the dose of medication may be warranted to avoid hypoglycemia risk. In fact, some diabetic clients have discontinued taking large doses of insulin entirely as they follow the bistroMD plan. But please note, hypoglycemia is life-threatening!

Another important consideration is that some people with diabetes develop a kidney disease called diabetic nephropathy. People with nephropathy may require a reduction in their dietary protein intake, a macronutrient providing 40 to 45 percent of total calories in the bistroMD program.
