The young stars of the "Twilight" saga all follow their own unique celebrity diet plans. But no other star of the famous film franchise required a significant diet than Taylor Lautner.

Transforming into a werewolf off-screen meant the right combination of diet and intense workout routine get a muscular, toned physique. Find out how the Twilight star gained weight to look the part.

Taylor Lautner Diet and Workout Routine

To play the part of werewolf Jacob Black, the star adopted a liberal diet and an intense workout schedule. Taylor Lautner's workout routine was an intense and diet quite liberal.

Eating Like a Werewolf

Needing to gain at least 30 pounds of muscle in one year, an appetite of a werewolf was required. Because while the average person usually eats between 1,200 to 1,500 calories per day on a diet, Lautner consumed nearly 3,000!

For Taylor Lautner's weight gain to be healthy, the actor needed to ensure calories came from quality food sources. Meal timing was also useful to optimize training and recovery of workouts. Here is what a typical day may look like for Taylor:

• Breakfast: To start out the day, Taylor ate a breakfast of mostly protein and carbohydrates. The actor often enjoyed 4 egg white omelets and two servings of toast. A glass pomegranate juice or hot green tea tended to accompany the morning meal.

• Lunch: For his celebrity diet at lunchtime, the actor usually focused on taking in more lean protein. One half of a rotisserie chicken was one of the star's favorites, combined with a hearty helping of rice pilaf. Taylor topped off this meal with a serving of green beans, alongside a serving of butternut squash.

• Dinner: For dinner, the actor ate cooked salmon with a side of sweet potato. To add more fiber, Taylor ate this meal with a side of mixed veggies cooked in one tablespoon of olive oil.

• Post-Workout Meal: If working on building muscle, the extra calories can be obtained by adding an extra daily meal. And after a rigorous workout, Lautner would often eat a meal like mac and cheese for a combo of protein and carb. Protein shakes were also helpful and convenient.

Training Like an Animal

Diet is key to grow muscle mass, but so is putting the time in the gym. (And weight training and like an animal!)

Fortunately, though, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" star already had a strong foundation in physical fitness. In fact, he was active in martial arts and competed at the national level for karate. He also played baseball and danced in a hip-hip class in high school.

But in order to buff up, his workout routine constantly varied to promote consistent muscle growth. And for Taylor Lautner's fat gain to be minimal, and mostly lean muscle, the actor utilized cardio routines. The program included intense bouts of cardio and exercises from the P90X program.
