Extreme Weight Loss: Dangerous and Unsuccessful

It’s easy to become super focused on weight loss to the point where it becomes extreme. Losing weight is a gradual process, but most of us do not want to wait that long to see results and some extreme weight loss strategies may help you lose weight fast, but it won’t last. The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to practice a healthy lifestyle by eating well and exercising daily.

We’re going to give you 3 extreme weight loss strategies that you should NOT do and give you one healthy weight loss strategy that will help you lose the pounds and get in shape in time for summer.

Starvation, fasting and very low calorie diets

If you severely slash your calories, you’re going to lose weight, but what you don’t know is that you’re also losing muscle mass and by cutting your calories so drastically, you’re in line for some serious health risks. Besides, most people who try to lose weight this way gain it all back plus some extra unwanted pounds.

Here’s a rule of thumb—don’t cut calories below 1,200 a day. Keep in mind that when you lose weight quickly, you tend to pack it back on with more fat and less muscle, which lowers your metabolism and calorie needs even more.

Loads of supplements and over-the-counter diet pills

If only we could take a magical diet pill and lose weight with the snap of our fingers. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way and if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. They may not appear dangerous at first, but what you don’t know is that most diet pills are loaded with caffeine and diuretics that can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.

Cleanses or detox plans

Cleaning to remove toxins from your body is not necessary. Some cleanses can cause weight loss from water and stool weight, but they can also be very dangerous with risks of dehydration or electrolyte imbalance. Your body is already uniquely fine-tuned to detoxify and excrete toxins so cleanses are not necessary. Step back and let your body do its job. However, if you do want to cleanse your body the old fashioned way, make sure you drink lots of water and eat high-fiber foods.

A weight loss plan that actually works

BistroMD doesn’t believe in dieting. We believe in health and healthy eating to lose weight. We will never ask you to count calories, restrict the foods you eat or restrict your portion sizes to ant-like amounts. We are built on the foundation of healthy weight loss that is based on real science and the unique knowledge that food is medicine.

Dr. Cederquist, a bariatric physician with over 20 years of experience, and our registered dieticians developed these nutritional requirements for healthy and long-term weight loss.
Every bite you take follows this proven approach for healthy weight loss. Our program provides 1,100-1,400 calories daily with 40-50% total caloric intake from lean, adequate protein, 20-25% of calories from healthy fats, and 30-35% from complex carbohydrates.

Why should you choose a diet meal delivery program?

We understand that it can be difficult to find a balance with our hectic schedules and busy lifestyles. That’s why we’re here. If you don’t have time to go to the grocery store, select healthy recipes or cook—don’t worry because we can do it all for you.
