Weight Loss

From the effects of the hormone cortisol to the role of genetics in weight loss, this category is packed with everything that you need to know about losing weight the healthy way.

Stabilizing Your Weight

When you are overweight, your set point adjusts upward to accommodate your body's increased caloric needs. When you lose weight, your set point needs to be adjusted downward, otherwise your body will continue to crave those foods that lead to overeating, and weight gain.

Stabilizing Your Weight

Has Your Body Reached Equilibrium?

In order to stabilize your body at its new weight, you must maintain your weight within three pounds long enough to allow the hypothalamus in your brain to catch on to the idea that your new weight is "normal." This will give your brain the chance to make adjustments in the metabolic feedback system. This also helps your metabolism adjust to new changes in your diet and eating habits.

On a weight program, it is important for you to be able to have a night where you choose to eat something out of your diet norm. Your choices on the weekends or on "My Night" thus far have helped you adjust to a new set point. They provide more than just flexibility because you are basically testing your body to see if it's reached equilibrium each meal.

Try a "test" meal

A "test" meal is a good way to see if you have reached equilibrium. Your "test" meal should be an evening meal of balanced food groups that are larger than what you're accustomed to eating. If you have reached equilibrium, your weight will stay approximately the same, even after your "test meal."

Lemon & Rosemary Chicken with Turkey Bacon Brussel Sprouts

This flavorful entree is crafted of succulent chicken breast seasoned to perfection with garlic, lemon, and rosemary. The dish is accented by a side of brussel sprouts topped with crumbled turkey bacon & lemon zest.
