At some point or another, we’ve all come across the idea that in order to lose weight we need to eat right and exercise. While you might think that an Olympic athlete would know this better than anyone, but for Tim Morehouse, a member of the U.S. Men’s Fencing Team, this wasn’t always the case.
Morehouse, who was recently featured in an article in Men’s Health entitled, “Fat Slasher,” was once like many other Americans in that he did not fully understand the value of a healthy and balanced diet. In the article, Morehouse notes that much of his training in the early years of his fencing career focused on workouts designed to make him look good, and a diet that included more than its fair share of junk food. Living in New York City, Tim notes that a large portion of his diet came from a category of food that city dwellers refer to as “street fare.”
According to the article, it was only in his sophomore year of college that Morehouse asked himself the question, “How far can I take this?” In an effort to overhaul his approach to training and nutrition, he signed a sponsorship deal with BistroMD. As the article states, this decision would lead to measured changes in his level of performance, as well as his overall energy levels. Another critical component was 18 pounds of lost body fat, after which he says he now feels better prepared than ever before to take fencing to the next level and bring home gold for the United States in the 2012 London Games.
