7 Healthy and Delicious Homemade Sweet Potato Fries Recipes


The word "sweet" and "fries" do not necessarily contain healthy connotations surrounding them. However, sweet potato fries can be exceedingly nutritious, especially when ditching the frying oil. One sweet potato contains over 300 percent daily needs of vitamin A. Sweet potatoes are also significant sources of vitamin C, potassium, and manganese with a heaping amount of fiber. These ideas on how to make sweet potato fries will be simply nutritious and delicious.

Healthy and Delicious Homemade Sweet Potato Fries Recipes

For each of the recipe ideas below, the cooking time and temperature is the same. Heat your oven to 425 degrees F. Spray a baking sheet with non-stick spray. Arrange sweet potatoes in a single layer on prepared baking sheet and bake until tender and golden brown - usually 18-24 minutes depending on thickness of cut. Cool 5 minutes before serving.

Traditional

Wanting a simple recipe to accommodate the traditional "burgers and fries" meal? Look no further. Cut the sweet potatoes into steak fries, drizzle with a little olive oil, and sprinkle with a little seasoned salt and pepper.

Barbecue

Although made with a little more effort, the end result is worth it. The extensive spice list consists of: brown sugar, paprika, black pepper, salt, chili powder, garlic and onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Pair with grilled chicken and corn on the cob for a complete BBQ meal filled with protein, nutrients, and flavor!

Cajun

Take a trip down south to New Orleans. Season the fries with garlic and onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix plain Greek yogurt, green onions, a dash of pepper for a tasty dipping sauce. Oh how great they would taste paired with fresh shrimp!

Parmesan Herb

Traditional just turned nontraditional. Start preparing the fries like any traditional fry, with a little oil and salt and pepper. Once fresh out of the oven and still hot, sprinkle parmesan cheese and any herbs desired or on hand. Herb suggestions include parsley, oregano, and basil.

Hot Fries

Like the parmesan herb fries, first prepare the fries traditionally. Once cooked, toss the fries in your favorite hot sauce. Return the fries back to the baking sheet and sprinkle a thin layer of low-fat cheese. Place back into the oven until the cheese is golden brown. Enjoy hot wings? Use buffalo sauce and blue cheese for a baked, healthier alternative.

Salt and Vinegar

Salt and vinegar goes beyond bagged potato chips. For a fresher version of the standard salt and vinegar, cut sweet potatoes into small discs. Toss the chips into olive oil, malt vinegar, kosher salt, and pepper. Spread the potatoes into a single layer on a baking sheet and bake until lightly browned and crispy. Pair with fresh fish for a healthier version of fish and chips.

Sweet

To enhance the sweetness of sweet potatoes, drizzle melted coconut oil until lightly coated. Sprinkle with cinnamon and a dash of salt and bake till golden. Mix Greek yogurt, cinnamon, and honey for a light, sweet dipping sauce. The pairing can be used for a protein-packed snack or a sweet treat in the evening.
