You’re hungry. It’s sometime between meals and you need a little something salty. You go to the pantry. You see popcorn and pretzels. Which should you choose? This is the battle of America’s favorite snacks.

Both of these snacks are a much better choice than potato chips and quite a few other treats that can be found in most pantries. However, one salty snacks triumphs the other when it comes to nutritional content. In this battle, popcorn wins.

A snack-sized bag of pretzels and a single-serving bag of 94 % fat-free microwave popcorn have about the same amount of protein and fat. But a single serving of popcorn is six whole cups. That’s a lot of popcorn! In those six cups you’ll get three servings of whole-grain and five grams of fiber.

If that wasn’t enough to sway you to grab the bag and heat, a serving of popcorn has half the amount of sodium of a serving of pretzels.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you can go to the theater and start squirting on the butter and enjoying an endless tub.
