The possibility of weight loss, improved health and better body image are some of the main benefits of dieting; however, the implementation of some diets can be so difficult, that results are never achieved. 

High Protein Low Carb Food on a Diet

High protein low carb diets are great for weight loss and if followed properly, they can help you reach your weight loss goals in no time. On this type of diet, you won’t lose as much muscle as other diets and you’ll also burn more fat; however, if you follow this diet for an extended period of time, typically more than three months, fatigue and mineral deficiencies can become a serious problem. 

High protein low carb foods include

      - Meat: chicken, turkey, pork, beef, duck, veal, fish, and shellfish

      - Dairy: milk, cheese, and yogurt

      - Eggs

      - Tofu

      - Nuts

Some grains and vegetables provide protein, but they are often higher in carbs and should not be used as a main source of protein while on this type of diet.

High Carb Low Protein Food on a Diet

A high protein low carb diet can be effective since complex carbs keep you feeling full longer.  Therefore, eating a diet high in carbs could help you consume fewer calories throughout the day.  This diet could be a good choice for you if you are a vegetarian or if your doctor told you to limit your consumption of meat.  However, drawbacks include: muscle loss, and if done improperly, blood sugar fluctuations.  To avoid blood sugar fluctuations, eat complex carbs and limit your intake of foods with high sugar content. 

Some great complex carbs include:

      - Brown rice

      - Whole grains

      - Quinoa

      - Whole wheat products: pasta, bagels, breads

      - Vegetables: carrots, celery, broccoli, spinach, squash

      - Fruit: apples, bananas, oranges

It’s also a good idea to avoid simple white carbs found in potatoes, chips, popcorn and white rice. These can cause blood sugar fluctuations as well.  Also try to eat foods high in fiber such as oatmeal and bran.   

Low Fat Food on a Diet

Low fat diets are popular diets for weight loss and they also help to reduce the risk of certain medical conditions like high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease. 

To follow this type of diet, eat foods that are naturally low in fat:

Lean cuts of meat: cut off excess fat or look for reduced fat varieties

      - Vegetables

      - Fruits

      - Whole grains

Avoid nuts, butters and oil since they are high in fat.  Also, when preparing food, use as little oil and butter as possible for greasing the pan.
