7 Beneficial Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar that Will Enhance Your Life

The use of apple cider vinegar has been popularized based on its idealized role in melting off unwanted pounds. Although apple cider vinegar may lead to very subtle changes in weight, it certainly is not a quick fix to health. So when it really comes down to the "core" of claims, what benefits actually come with compelling evidence?

Apple Cider Vinegar: Does It Fall Far from the Apple Tree?

Before jumping into the seedy truth, it is important to understand what apple cider vinegar (ACV) truly is and how the composition may play a role in health. ACV is suggestive to its name; a vinegar produced from apples. To create the apple cider, apples are crushed, the juice is retained, and bacteria and yeast are added. Much like like the formation of alcohol, the apple mixture ferments. After the fermentation process, acetic acid is added and ultimately creates the ACV used for health or in the home.

Although no set dosage has been established, the intake generally ranges from one teaspoon to one tablespoon up to three times a day. When looking at the nutritional profile of apple cider vinegar, the totality of calories comes from natural sugar from the apples - one tablespoon provides three calories. ACV also offers small amounts of potassium, manganese, calcium, iron, magnesium, and phosphorous.

7 Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

1. Amplifies Taste
Incorporate ACV into foods for added flavor. Create salad dressings, mix into smoothies, and marinate and tenderize meats. Since apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid, it can substitute acidic ingredients called for in recipes such as lemon juice.

2. Blood Sugar Control
Sound research has demonstrated the intake of ACV (specifically related to acetic acid) can keep blood sugar levels at bay. Although its intake should not replace a healthy diet and exercise, health experts imply ACV helps block starch digestion. The interference keeps blood sugar from spiking following meals. Additionally, ACV ingestion prior to bedtime may keep pre-breakfast, fasting levels within a healthy range.

3. Heart Health
Hyperlipidemia is a condition in which there are high lipid levels in the blood, including cholesterol and triglycerides. If left uncontrolled, the substances can accumulate and increase the risk of a heart attack and stroke. The use of AVC can be a simple and cost-effective treatment of hyperlipidemia.

4. Improves Digestion
In unfiltered and unpasteurized ACV, the "mother" of vinegar forms. It is compiled of proteins, probiotics, and enzymes and results to a murky product. But do not let the aesthetic throw you off, as the properties of "mother" may contribute to improved digestion related to healthful acetic acid bacteria.

5. Pickling
Though most pickling recipes calls for white vinegar, ACV can be substituted and may offer a fruitier flavor. This slightly sweet pickle recipe contains apple cider vinegar. Pair with sandwiches, chop into fresh tuna salad, or simply enjoy on its own!

6. Food Preservation
Apple cider vinegar has been a common practice for safer food products, especially in the curing of meats, linked to its acetic acid concentration. Recent research suggests immersing poultry in ACV, under temperature control, can reduce Salmonella contamination.

7. Disinfectant and Cleaner
Beyond health benefits of apple cider vinegar, it also functions as an inexpensive household cleaner. To reduce harsh chemicals on surfaces, create a natural alternative with apple cider vinegar. To dilute the concentration, use a half cup of ACV per one cup of water. The mixture can be used on bathroom, kitchen, and glass surfaces and duel as a disinfectant.

Use with Caution

Though the use of apple cider vinegar shows health benefits, its use should certainly be with caution. The acid it contains could be harmful to the esophagus and cause erosion of teeth enamel, especially taken without any sort of dilution. Additionally, heavy consumption can put strain on the kidneys and bones and slow down stomach digestion. Those diagnosed with gastroparesis, a medical condition characterized by delayed gastric emptying, should be cautious of using ACV, as it may delay stomach emptying even further. Before implementing ACV into your diet, especially if managing a chronic disease specified above, speaking with a healthcare profession can reduce harmful adverse effects.
