While there is still no food proven to stop cancer, some foods do show cancer-fighting signs. It could that be an overall diet of healthy fruits and vegetables just works against your odds of heart disease and cancer. Regardless, eating these 7 foods, superfoods, which are packed with phytochemicals and antioxidants, will make you healthier and possibly reduce your risk of cancer.


Your parents were right. Eating your vegetables will make you strong. Broccoli, and its cousin, cauliflower, are most protective against cancers of the mouth, esophagus, and stomach.


As if you needed another reason to eat strawberries. Research suggests that strawberries protect against heart disease, cancer, and memory decline. Strawberries are also rich in antioxidants like vitamin C.


Not only does it keep vampires away, garlic also fights against cancer cells. To get the most benefits, peel, chop, and let sit before cooking. 15 to 20 minutes will allow the protective effects to activate.

Whole Grains

Nutritionists and doctors have been touting the befits of whole grains for years. Now, some say, whole grains may battle cancer. Look for 100% whole wheat bread in the grocery store.


Some studies suggest carrots may fight against cervical cancer as well as cancers of the mouth, esophagus, and stomach. Leave your carrots whole while steaming or boiling then cut when cooked. You won’t lose the nutrients or the sweet taste.


The red color of tomatoes comes from a phytochemical called lycopene which reduces the risk of prostate cancer as well as breast and lung cancers. Eat cooked or processed tomatoes. The heat breaks down the cell walls making the cancer fighting compounds more available to your body.


Spinach is rich in lutein, an antioxidant that may protect against cancer. Some studies suggest carotenoids in spinach may also protect against ovarian, lung, and colorectal cancer as well. Raw or lightly cooked spinach is your best bet.

Superfoods: Add more colorful fruits and vegetables into your diet every day. Start by making up a nice spinach salad with broccoli, strawberries, and carrots and serve with a slice of whole grain pizza topped with tomato sauce and garlic. You’ll be on your way to healthier and happier you.
