Tips for Exercising on Vacation

Tips for Exercising on Vacation

Vacations are one of the top things we look forward to every year and unfortunately, they can also be one of the top catalysts to exercise routine failure. However, working out while you’re on vacation doesn’t have to be a challenge. With a little planning and these helpful exercise tips, it can be really easy.

Try these 4 exercise tips and don’t derail your workout

Get your bearings

Make sure you check the weather before you leave and pack your workout clothes accordingly. It’s also a good idea to bring comfortable workout clothes with you too. The last thing you need are uncomfortable workout clothes when you’re hundreds of miles away from home. Also, another good exercise tip while you’re on vacation is to investigate the workout facilities in and around your hotel or the place you’ll be staying at. Some hotels offer fitness classes, gyms and even walking programs. Also, check for nearby parks with jogging trails or local gyms with day passes.

Work out early, especially if you’re normally an early riser

We’re not telling you that you should get up at the crack of dawn, but it is a lot easier to work out earlier in the day so you don’t miss out on all the fun stuff later. It helps to have everything laid out and ready to go in the morning—your clothes, shoes, iPod, headphones, water, etc. If your hotel has a fitness center then that’s probably going to be your best bet since it’s the most convenient option. You could also swim laps in the hotel pool or on the cruise ship, depending on where you are. Or maybe you like exercising outdoors and in that case, do a Google search and find the closest hiking or jogging trails to you.

Work out with other people that you’re with

If you’re on vacation with other people, offer to work out together and share your exercise tips with each other. Go for a jog with your sister or take a yoga class with your mother—the possibilities are endless. Everyone approaches working out differently so let go of some of your expectations about what you think a workout should look like and enjoy the time spent with your friends and family. Working out with others has many benefits. It provides social interaction, encouragement and motivation.

Take advantage of the great outdoors

If you’re not a traditional gym-goer or you don’t have access to a gym, depending on where you are—try some fun and active outdoor activities like golfing, snorkeling, sailing, tennis, yoga classes, scuba diving and anything else that you can think of depending on where you're staying. If you’re staying with your parents, go for a bike ride with them and catch up. Try a local sport. Get creative and look around. I bet you’ll find something fun to do that will burn those calories.

These exercise tips should set you up for success and make your vacation that much more enjoyable. Regular exercise promotes positivity and will help you get the most out of your vacation.
