Creating a lighter, healthier you is a multi-step process. One of the most important steps, and the main focus of this section, is exercise. Here we explore everything from the benefits of exercise to how much and how often it is necessary to promote weight loss.

Make Exercise A Habit and Get Fit!

Make Exercise A Habit and Get Fit!

If you are like most people, you start out on an exercise habit extremely motivated and ready to get going. About two weeks into it, however, you start to see that your motivation is lagging and you wonder where you went wrong.

Not sticking with a workout program is one of the biggest problems people have, so finding helpful solutions will dramatically boost your personal weight-loss results. Once you get yourself started on the right foot, and results start happening, it won’t be long before your momentum keeps fitness a regular part of your lifestyle.

Here are some of the top tips to make an exercise habit stick, so you can stay fit forever.

Listen to Your Favorite Music

The first way to make an exercise habit so you lose weight for good, is to listen to your favorite music. Music can be an extremely powerful motivator. By downloading your favorite songs on your MP3 player, you will not only get yourself in the gym, but also push yourself harder to meet your personal exercise goals.

Try to choose upbeat music that makes you want to dance and move around. This variety of music is most likely to keep you motivated, and it will help you keep a steady pace when you exercise.

Set Non-Food Rewards

Next, make sure you take the time to set non-food rewards. This is important because it gives you a goal to work toward while you are exercising. This could be something like a manicure at your favorite nail salon, a full-hour massage, a new workout wardrobe, or a movie night out with a loved one.

Set these rewards so they happen every two to three weeks of sticking with your regular workouts. This is enough time so you should be able to work toward them and make some progress along the way.

Make It Social

The next way to make yourself an exercise habit is to include a social aspect with it. When we do things with others, we are far more likely to become committed because we know other people are relying on us to participate. In addition to that, we tend to enjoy the activity more.

Whether you choose to join a group fitness class, or you just prefer to work out with a close friend, when you involve other people, you are going to find the process much more enjoyable.

Vary Your Choice of Activities

It’s always important to vary your choice of activities. If you are stuck doing the exact same workout day after day, week after week, it is not surprising that you would lose your motivation very quickly. Instead, try and incorporate at least three different types of workout activities into your daily routine. This could be one kickboxing class, one aerobics class, one boot camp, and one circuit-style weight lifting workout.

All of these activities will work different aspects of your fitness level, and will help you get over any type of boredom you associate with your exercise routine.

Participate in an Event

Another good way to increase your motivation to exercise is to set a goal to participate in a physical event. There are plenty of walks, runs, and obstacle races that you can enter that will give your cardio workouts new meaning. Most people really enjoy their experience in these events, and many people find themselves participating in more and more throughout their lifetime. Choose events that fit your level of physical fitness, and use the future event as motivation to stick with your exercise routine.

If running isn’t your thing, look into a mini-triathlon. Triathlons combine running, biking, and swimming so there is greater variety in your workout.

By following these guidelines, and by slowly making the time to exercise a little each day, you will be on your way to living a happier, and more "fit" life.
