Warm up this winter with our Turkey and Beef Chili Recipe
This winter, cozy up by the fire and warm up with a hearty helping of BistroMD's turkey and beef chipotle chili recipe.
Chili is a traditional dish that has a rich cultural history. Some of the earliest recipes of chili date back as early as 17th century Spain.
Because of the colonization in America, it is believed that the first recorded chili recipe was brought to the United States in the early 18th century by a group of people who arrived from the Canary Islands to what is known today as San Antonio, Texas.
The women who came in this group made a “beef-inspired” stew that contained a lot of Spanish ingredients, as well as a variety of spicy chili peppers.
During the California Gold Rush, chili became more popular as cowboys took the recipe under their wing and made it during their long travels through the desert. Chili was easy to prepare over an open camp fire. Most cowboys used boiling water to re-hydrate dried beef, fat, pepper, salt and chili peppers into stackable rectangles. This created chili “bricks” that could be boiled in pots along the trail.
From these early days in the old west, chili has become one of the most popular dishes in American cuisine culture, and it continues to hold strong. Our chili dish puts a little twist on this old-fashioned favorite, with a recipe that is delicious, as much as it is healthy!
Our chefs take freshly lean ground turkey and beef, and combine it with traditional chipotle spices to pack a little flavor punch into the mix. After the turkey and beef have been marinated in these seasonings, our chefs combine this with a mixture of pinto beans and a home-made tomato sauce to form a stew that is bursting with flavor.
To compliment the light spice of our delicious chili, our chefs serve our chili with a Native American-style corn pudding that is sweetened with a slight touch of maple syrup.
