Tips for Bridal Weight Loss

Bridal Weight Loss

Understandably, all brides want to look their very best on their wedding day, so it's no wonder that bridal weight loss is a common concern. Brides are, of course, the focus of a wedding. Considering the endless number of photographs and videos that are likely to document the day, bridal weight loss can be very stressful for young women. In many cases, brides-to-be wait until the last minute to start a diet and exercise regime and this sort of decision can actually be harmful. At Bistro M.D. we’re committed to helping you prepare yourself and your body for your wedding day in a healthy and stable way. As such, here are a few tips for achieving your ideal weight before your wedding day.

First of all, give yourself plenty of time to lose your weight. Ideally, you do not want to lose more than 2 pounds per week. In order to achieve healthy bridal weight loss, where your new weight can be easily maintained, it is important to take a gradual approach. Rapid weight loss is usually an indication you are either only losing water or you are actually losing muscle mass. Indeed, there are many negative side effects to rapid weight loss, so Bistro M.D. (and most health professionals) recommends that you give yourself at least two months to achieve your fitness goals. This will, of course, depend on the amount of weight you hope to lose, but 2 pounds per week is a good guideline.

Secondly, you need to make realistic bridal weight loss goals. Losing 10 or 15 pounds in the week before your wedding is extremely unlikely. Crash diets that are associated with fast weight loss can be detrimental to your health. You'll also want to set your goals, so that they are not only challenging but also achievable. Don’t expect to slim down to a wedding dress size that is smaller than your average size (a lifetime size 8 isn’t all of a sudden going to slim down to a 4 because of a wedding). By setting realistic and achievable goals, you’ll more easily maintain motivation and you’ll feel great about yourself for achieving your goals.

Avoid fad diets. Any woman who has struggled with weight loss will probably be able to list at least a dozen diets she's seen advertised on TV or in magazines. Unfortunately, there are no magic pills or meal plans that will guarantee that you achieve your bridal weight loss goals. Plus, many of these fad diets can result in vitamin and mineral deficiencies. To reach your bridal weight loss goals while maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you should endeavor to eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly. Bridal weight loss is certainly not impossible, and Bistro M.D. knows you have all the skills you need to achieve your goals and look beautiful on your wedding day! Nonetheless, taking a gradual approach that involves a bit of hard work on your part will lead you to sustainable bridal weight loss and a new, healthier you!
