Dieting for a Wedding

Brides, and even grooms nowadays, know that dieting for a wedding can help them look their best for their special day. Developing a healthy diet is not only beneficial for losing weight for your wedding day, but it is also necessary for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Nonetheless, dieting for a wedding is really no different than dieting for other purposes: a healthy lifestyle change is one that involves a balanced diet and exercise. The following are some tips designed by Bistro M.D to help you develop and maintain a new lifestyle so that you can look better than ever on your wedding day.

If you plan on dieting for a wedding then you'll want to eat a lot of high-fiber foods including fruits, vegetables, beans and grains. Foods that are high in fiber are known as the best source of carbohydrates. High fiber foods help you lose weight because they are not only nutritious but also very filling. Plus, high fiber foods help slow the absorption of carbohydrates so that blood sugar levels are more consistent. Stable blood sugar helps to limit food cravings.

Next, when you're dieting for a wedding you'll want to limit your intake of refined sugars found in sodas, candies and baked goods. Sugar is added to a very wide range of food and beverages, making it very difficult to avoid. Calorie dense foods that are full of sugar are very ineffective at satisfying hunger cravings, and they cause blood sugar levels to spike. This is very unhealthy and can actually lead to more food cravings and therefore greater caloric intake. Dieting for a wedding does not mean you can never eat sweets, just that you should practice moderation.

Probably the most important principle behind weight loss is balancing caloric intake with caloric expenditure. This, of course, means that exercise facilitates weight loss by burning calories. Ideally, you will want to reduce your average daily caloric intake in order to lose weight. A good guideline is to reduce your calories by about 20 percent. If you add to this a healthy daily exercise regime, you will achieve steady and stable weight loss.

Another tip for anybody dieting for a wedding is to eat a variety of foods from all the food groups. Our body needs a wide range of vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, amino acids and other nutrients in order to function efficiently. By eating a range of food types, you can be sure that you are getting your daily-required amounts of these important nutrients. Plus, as we all know -- variety is the spice of life. You'll be much less likely to become bored with a diet if you allow yourself to experience a range of tastes and textures.

Regardless of why or who is dieting for a wedding, the principles remain the same. At Bistro M.D. we want you to succeed in your weight loss goals so that you can look fantastic on that special day.
